Good materials, lousy instructions.
By Piolet et ski
Clearly the right materials for fixing or replacing a tent pole section, but... as with all repair items, one needs some tools and some dexterity to make this work. The instructions aren't all that good either. My specific suggestions:Don't just "cut the pole to length with a hacksaw," as that will cause the cut end to split again and you will be back where you started. Instead, clamp your hacksaw in a vise, blade up, chuck the pole section in your electric drill and spin it against the saw blade. Then clean and chamfer the cut end with a file. Also, thread the elastic through the pole BEFORE cutting it (the elastic, that is).

Good As New
By Cliffton Mcintire
These pole segments are identical to my originals, except longer. Cutting to the right size was easy, with appropriate tools.I've read reviews of troubled cutting, but I'm sure people were doing it wrong. First of all, fiberglass is fiberglass - you're not going to cut it with bolt cutters or a rough saw. To avoid splitting the fibers you'll need a dremel or die grinder with cutoff disk, or less preferably a band saw or hacksaw with a very fine-gauge blade. After cutting, grind or sand the outer sharp edges to prevent future splitting and the inner sharp edges to prevent cutting of the elastic string.I also read about trouble re-threading the poles. It's definitely necessary to clean the metal couplings if they have caked mud inside. It was also necessary for me to squish the hook on the threading wire a bit, with pliers - it wouldn't fit inside the glass reeds otherwise. Aside from these obvious things, I can't imagine any difficulty.A+ product.

Good and effective, with some work.
By C. VanDoren
I measured my poles and this kit appeared to provide an exact replacement for one of my poles. unfortunately their pole measurements do not include the metal tips and mine did. So measure to the little bump in your metal tip to get the correct length.I didn't have glue to hold the new metal tip on, so I squeezed it down slightly with pliers to make a tight fit - don't oversquish it! And I used another reviewers tip to cut the fiberglass pole by putting it in a drill and rotating it against the hacksaw - worked GREAT!It is nice to have a new shockcord, I found the tool to thread it through very sturdy and helpful, I will take advantage of it by getting new shockcord for the other poles, since mine have extra length on them which makes it tough to thread the poles together. I thought their instructions for cutting the shockcord to length made it too short and tight, which probably help is putting the poles together but will make the shockcord fail faster. I made mine quite a bit longer - still stretched but not so much.
