2Eureka over did this tent and changed their legendary ease of use into a burden
By tim can
I must preface my review by saying we absolute love Eureka Tents. The ease of use the water tightness and the durability have been the selling points for us. We have had Timberline 2 and 4 tents and several years use from our Space III, We currently use timberline tents backpacking and a Titan for family camping however, when we upgraded to the Condo we found that all the things we loved about Eureka tents were a burden here.First the good:The tent is massive and dwarfs absolutely everything else about it. At some 20 feet long and 9 feet tall it encompasses a massive space accomedating large families or even groups with ease. The central hub system is the same type used on and loved on so many of Eureka's top of the line tents. The interior changing room that lets you have privacy while no having to zip up all the windows is a great idea! The tent is light inside, very well ventilated, and strong.Downsides:The central hub system so easy with four poles is not easy with six.I am 6' 7" tall and found the tent burdensome to set up and too tall, even for me, to comfortably do things like place the fly over the top - even with a running start! The clear inserts in the zipped in storm flap separate from the nylon simply because the enormous sail area of the tent, creates stresses too much for a stiched joint of two different materials with different expansion/stretch rates and the plastic gives way.The fly design over the doors is poor. Unlike nearly ever other Eurka tent - there is no overhang. Water drips off the storm fly over the zipper which leaks. Worse if you have to exit in the rain you litterally have to open an outwardly sloping door and the rain coming down and pouring off the fly, runs guess where - right into the tent! No way to avoid it - just poorly designed. The steel poles also suffer from the huge stresses of such a structure and assume slight, but permanent bends in the direction of the stress. This would not be a issue but it makes them non-interchangeable with the other identical poles. So you might was well mark the poles the first time you pitch this tent as right front pole, left middle pole, etc. becasue that is where you will have to use them and it will save a lot of frustration later.Storage! This tent takes up a lot of storage space - about the equal of a army duffel bag even larger. It is sort of like hauling a body in a duffel bag and is equally awkward. The fact that this duffel come with two handles one at each end tells you even the designers realized that it would take two people to handle it.Conclusions:We used it one season and sold it not because it was a bad tent but far too much of a burden. I buy Eureka tents because I find them good servants - this one made a terrible master.By the way, this is far too much tent for any family having less than 4 adult and or teenaged family members. You simply cannot pitch it with less people and smaller children are not able to help as the poles are massive - about 16 feet long with a 70 degree bend at the six foot mark.In short this tent is too much a good thing - combined with a terrible and I mean terrible, rainfly design The shame of it is I wanted very badly to like this tent and could not.

4Impressive quality - Not too easy to setup though
By MNP
The product quality of this item is unbeatable. It is sturdy and offers tremendous room. The actual useful room is significant because the walls go almost straight up so you can stand near the edge of the tent so the amount of internal space is great. The only problem was setup. You have to follow the directions carefully, even then, the setup is not too easy. I feel like there is lots of pressure on the poles as you lift the tent in a circular, add one leg at a time manner. The height is also challenging but that's what you are after so I don't complain about that. This is a 5 star tent even with the difficulty of the setup except for what I consider excessive pressure on the poles during setup.

5Fantastic Tent!!
By Video Maniac
I have owned one of these for about ten years and when I saw them on sale about a week and a half ago for $245 with FREE SUPER SAVER shipping, I bought one as a gift for my brother's family. They must have been clearing out the 2011 model for the 2012 model, but that price was a steal! My wife (5'6") and I (5'9") have five kids and lately the oldest two help us set up this tent, but I have done it by myself (including the fly), but it is easier with at least two people. If you follow the instructions and do not try to lift the center hub using a pole from the edge, but rather let the arc lift it after you insert two opposite corners you will be in good shape. For the fly, installing it before raising it all the way is the easiest, but it can be done with two people after it is fully erected. Take two end edges and start at the opposite end from where you want them. Then while walking toward the other end of the tent (where you want them to end up) gently slide it back and forth (perpendicular to the direction you are walking) as it slides up the poles. Take care as the leading edge passes over the center hub, but with a little practice it is fairly easy.We have used the four corner poles interchangeably from the beginning and have never had any problem with them taking on a permanent bend. [Of course the two side poles are shorter and have a permanent arc in the top two sections]. All of the poles are aluminum, not steel.Further, we have never had any problem with the window material separating from the cloth on the fly inserts. However, we found that if we tried to install them after being staked out it is very hard on the zippers and I could see how it might eventually rip along the window/cloth seams. The trick is to install them before staking it out, or if you need to add them later, unstake it first, move the poles in a little, install them and then stake it back out snuggly, but not so tight that the zippers are hard to zip. From our ten years of experience:PROS * COMPLETELY FREESTANDING!! NOTE: This was our first a requirement when looking for a tent. We often camp where staking is not possible - too stony. * NO POLE SLEEVES!! All pole connections are either clip or a bungee loop to a hook on the poles. This was our second requirement. * Very heavy duty material (especially the bottom). * Bathtub style bottom provides a superior seal. * Very roomy - 10' x 11' of usable area in the main room - "Kid's" room + gear - 7' x 10' in the "porch" room - This is the "Parent's" room when we camp. - Tall enough to stand up in nearly all of the usable area. * Reasonably warm (in the big room) when the fly inserts are installed. We have camped at 10 °F with 20 °F bags and were warm. Just a bummer when you have to go to the bathroom. * Reasonably sturdy in windy conditions. Once staked out, it is remarkably strong for such a large tent. * The white fabric on the top of the inner tent helps disperse light throughout the tent. * Very dry with the fly inserts installed. * Factory seam sealed (taped). Good sealing on all the main fly and floor seams.CONS * I agree with the other reviewer that the fly design over the door needs work, especially at the "porch" room door. - This is the main source of water during heavy rain. - If the fly inserts are not installed the water runs directly on the zipper which is at the middle. - It is almost impossible to open the door while it is raining without some water pouring in off of the fly. * If you wish to use the fly without the inserts in warmer weather, the loop and toggle retainers at the bottom of the side window in both rooms and the "porch" room front windows will drip water in heavy rain. It may take several good soakings with seam sealer to eliminate. * The two side pole pre-arced top sections should be keyed to keep the bend lined up. I have them marked, but keying would be better for alignment, but might make them hard to separate. * The top edge of the windows in the "porch" room should zipper, instead of only having a toggle and button hole in the center to hold them up. (They may have changed this in newer models) * It is heavy. It is not made for carrying very far without help. If we need to set up a ways from the vehicle I usually unpack it and carry the body separately and then the balance.CONCLUSIONI consider the Pros to far outweigh the Cons. Further, the two requirements of being completely freestanding and no pole sleeves in a big tent left only this tent at the time we were looking for a tent.I gladly put up with the flaw in the fly design for these two features as well as being factory seam sealed.
